My work finds comic alarm in pop gothic imagery. I begin by drawing on canvas with paint. My hope and expectation is to be satisfied with the painting on the first go -- invariably I am not. Repeated efforts to develop the composition can leave the piece over worked and dead, so I color sheets of paper with vinyl or spray-paint, cut out a shape and adhere it to the canvas, painting on top of it. Through this process, something alchemic happens: the jigsaw puzzle pieces and still exposed parts build unintended and exciting new possibilities. The patch over becomes a break-through. I continue with this method until the picture comes together and feels right.
